Ma’a salama Steve Cotterill

Despite claims that Steve Cotterill would be given a chance this season, a club statement this morning confirmed he has departed the club with immediate effect.

Cotterill met with the club’s new owners, the Al-Hasawi family, yesterday and after ‘long deliberations’ they have decided to make a new appointment in a bid to deliver their ‘long-term vision’.

The statement added: “The club would like to acknowledge their gratitude to Mr Cotterill for guiding it through an extremely difficult and traumatic period and for retaining the side’s Championship status last season.”

Assistant manager Rob Kelly has been placed in temporary charge of team affairs.

Various managers have been linked to the Forest job since the end of last season, including — deep breath — Neil Warnock, Darren Ferguson, Mick McCarthy, Alan Curbishley, Harry Redknapp and Alex McLeish, among others. Sky Bet haven’t wasted any time with the latest odds.

While many were unsure about Cotterill’s appointment in October he kept the club in the Championship and secured some successful loan players during the transfer window, namely Adlene Guedioura. Credit where credit’s due, as Kyle Prometheus said in April.

We wish you well Steve and expect an ‘imminent’ announcement on the new manager.

UPDATE: The US tour has now been cancelled.
