Chilean international Gonzalo Jara Reyes has joined Nottingham Forest on loan from West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old right-back joined West Brom from Santiago’s Colo-Colo in 2009 and has made 56 appearances for the Baggies as well as a loan period at Brighton & Hove Albion. The versatile defender can play across the back four and as a defensive midfielder.
Alex McLeish said: “We tried for Alan Hutton again but I think he’s looking to see if there’s anything for him in the Premier League. You’ve got to move as quickly as you can and sometimes an opportunity like Jara doesn’t come around again.
“Steve Clarke said West Brom would let him out and him and Dan Ashworth (West Brom’s sporting and technical director) and the people at our club have worked very swiftly to get him in. He’s a very experienced full-back and is a guy who works and trains full-on.”
Reyes added: “I was very keen to talk to Forest when I heard they were interested in signing me. They are a big club and everyone in my country knows about their history.
“I have enjoyed my time with West Brom but I came to England to play football and this is an opportunity that I could not afford to turn down.
“There is a big challenge for Forest to get into the Premier League and I would love to play a part in that.”
Separately, Karl Darlow has been recalled from his loan spell at Walsall and will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game against Peterborough.
