Nottingham Forest have made a solid start to the 2018/19 campaign, with promotion firmly on the agenda for boss Aitor Karanka.

The Reds have been defeated just twice so far and the new-look team is getting better with each passing week.

Forest fans have become accustomed to disappointment in previous years but this year there is a sense that things might change.

With the club now in safe hands off the pitch; there is a real sense that things can progress on the field.

With the squad now boasting lots of talent, competition for places is rife.

Gil Dias

The Portugal u21 international has found life in the Championship tough so far.

He is yet to score a league goal for the Reds since joining from Monaco and it seems pretty clear that Aitor Karanka will be hoping for more from his winger.

Dias was seen as something of a standout recruit when he joined on loan in the summer but Forest fans have not seen the best of him just yet.

Matty Cash

The Nottingham Forest academy graduate has struggled for any sort of consistency in his play this season.

Cash is very much a fan favourite at the City Ground; due largely to his all-action performances that leave every inch of effort out on the turf.

With the Reds now boasting a plethora of attacking talent it would represent the perfect time for Cash to stand up to be counted on a more frequent basis.

Costel Pantilimon

When the big Romanian arrived on loan last season he quickly became a revelation at the City Ground.

The experienced goalkeeper performed superbly well between the posts during the second half of the campaign; tempting Karanka into recruiting him permanently during the summer.

This season hasn’t quite seen Pantilimon live up to the billing of his loan spell, however. The 31-year-old has looked nervous on occasions and Forest supporters will be hoping that his form doesn’t cause their promotion bid to derail.
