Nottingham Forest are a club with an esteemed youth academy and over the years the Reds have produced several quality players.

Each season talk among those of a Forest persuasion inevitably turns towards which starlet will emerge into the first team from the youth ranks.

The Reds have been unable to hold on to a lot of their own talent in recent years; although the conveyor belt shows no sign of slowing down.

The latest man to show his worth is striker Arvin Appiah. The 17-year-old recently scored on his debut for the first-team in the 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Burton Albion.

During the latest international break, Appiah has been in fine fettle for the England u18s, catching the eye of a former Forest loan star in the process.

During a radio phone-in for Radio Five Live, legendary centre-forward Ian Wright was full of praise for the Forest man.

Wright scored five goals in ten games during a loan spell at the City Ground in 1999 and he clearly rates Appiah extremely highly.

On BBC show, The Monday Night Club (19th November, 6 pm), he said: “Southgate has got to be aware of him (Appiah) and I’m sure he will be. Gareth will be all over everybody now especially at that age group.”

The Forest youngster obviously has some way to go; his next task is to try and force his way into Aitor Karanka’s plans on a more frequent basis.

After making the step up to the England u18 squad he has netted three times in seven appearances; with the youngster showing a tremendous eye for goal in the process.

Breaking into the Forest first team on a more frequent basis will surely be the next step for Appiah and it definitely seems as though Forest have yet another gem on their hands in the talented striker
