With there less than a week until the winter transfer window slams shut, Nottingham Forest are about to get busy.

Strap yourselves in, it may be a bumpy ride.

As is customary in any given January, a slow start to the month is set to be followed by a frenetic end.

A mad scramble is about to be sparked.

Martin O’Neill is ready, saying in the Nottingham Post: “If it is at all possible, I would not mind bringing a few players in, if we can. I think the will is there to do that.

“I would like, if I can, to ensure that the players we bring in would add something to the squad, rather than just be part of it.

“You want to bring in players who will improve the team, regardless of whether it is a short-term deal or not.”

Creativity

Quality over quantity.

Good to know.

And where might you be looking to add Mr O’Neill?

“You would always like more creativity in the middle of the field, if that is at all possible,” he added in the Post.

“I have some very strong players in midfield, but you are always looking to get a little bit of extra.

“I would also like somebody in, in case anything happens to our centre forwards. We would like a little bit of extra there. We want a little bit of everything – which is perhaps the answer you were expecting.”

Maybe not expecting, but certainly hoping for.

There are obvious gaps in the Forest squad and the intention appears to be plugging them all.

Incoming

More creativity, another goal-getter, defensive reinforcements – a bit of everything incoming!

O’Neill has, however, moved to distance himself from some of the more obvious targets which have been talked up for moves to Trentside.

He said: “Some of the names who have been mentioned are people I have worked with in the past, with Ireland squads – and others are players who I have not worked with in the past.

“I think there are a lot of people jumping to early conclusions with some of them.”

All very intriguing.

Deadline day is approaching and the arrival and departure lounges at the City Ground appear set to see plenty of footfall.

Expect the unexpected.
