Few will have known much about Molla Wague when he rocked up at Nottingham Forest on deadline day.
He had previously spent time at Leicester and Watford, but had just seven appearances to show from those spells.
Stints had also been taken in across the top tiers of France, Spain and Italy by the Malian.
What were the Reds to expect from a new arrival though?
Martin O’Neill had clearly done his research and determined that the 27-year-old was worth a punt.
That assessment looked to be spot on as Wague stepped off the bench to score on his debut against Brentford.
A flying start with the promise of more to come.
He has not been seen since grabbing what proved to be the winner on his bow against the Bees, but was back on the bench at Preston.
There should be plenty more minutes to come as O’Neill continues to shuffle his pack.
An illustrious countryman believes Wague is capable of making the most of those opportunities and offering a positive return on the faith shown in him.
Former Mali international Frederic Kanoute, speaking courtesy of Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, told Seat Pitch when quizzed on what a countryman can offer Forest: “I wish him all the best.
“He’s a talent, a strong guy. He’s got to create something, obviously. We will have to see how he adjusts and if he can help the team.
“He’s a player I appreciate and if he keeps growing then he can bring a lot.”
Wague certainly appears to boast the attributes required to thrive at the City Ground.
A powerful presence who has already shown that he is useful in the air, what’s not to like?
Kanoute believes he is well suited to English football, adding: “I think he is.
“It is difficult though to speak before it happens. We will have to wait and see but he is capable.”
One appearance, one goal, one win.
Can’t ask for much more than that!
