Nottingham Forest boss Martin O’Neill oversaw a 1-0 win over arch-rivals Derby County last night as his side claimed three vital Championship points.

The Reds victory came courtesy of a Yohan Benalouane strike in the second minute and kept Forest within touching distance of the top six.

Following a ferocious night at the City Ground, Seat Pitch looked at three things we learned about Nottingham Forest following the contest…

Fans were somewhat unsure over the arrival of Milosevic on a free transfer at the start of the month.

The Swedish defender has now played five games on the spin and he has played his part in Forest’s revival.

On current form, he is making a mockery of the fact that the Reds managed to get him without paying a transfer fee.

The 27-year-old is forming a formidable partnership with Yohan Benalouane and as a result, the Reds are reaping the rewards.

The Reds under O’Neill are becoming a completely different proposition for opponents.

Forest had far more of the ball under Aitor Karanka’s management but did occasionally look somewhat ‘soft’.

Last night the Reds scored early and then never looked like surrendering their lead.

With Ben Watson’s presence protecting the back four, it allows Jack Colback and Ryan Yates the platform to play and that is paying dividends.

Since the new boss arrived at Forest they haven’t exactly dominated possession in matches.

The Reds are now four unbeaten, however, and fans might have to accept that this is how O’Neill wants his team to play.

Whilst results are going for Forest, who can moan?

O’Neill has his team on the cusp of the top six and they can now be considered firmly in the hunt.
