Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is the top choice for Player of the Season, according to Kenny Burns who has been speaking to the Nottingham Post.
An academy graduate, the 21-year-old has played the last six games for the Reds and ex-defender Burns is right to praise the fantastic youngster.
His performances have kept established professionals such as Adlene Guedioura and Claudio Yacob on the sidelines, but to say he is Player of the Season is wide of the mark.
Burns has told the Nottingham Post that the emergence of Yates is one of the highlights of the campaign, which is a more accurate assessment.
An emerging talent, yes. Player of the season? Absolutely not.
It’s worth remembering that for the first time in several seasons the Reds are competing.
Forest currently sit in eighth place in the Championship and there have been some real positives during the campaign.
If anyone is searching for a ‘top choice’ for Player of the Season then they need to look at another midfielder.
Jack Colback arrived for a second loan spell at the City Ground during the summer.
He played his way into Aitor Karanka’s thinking during the second part of last season when he played 16 times for the club.
His performances were of such quality that the Spaniard opted to sign him for the whole season prior to the current campaign.
The 29-year-old has been part of everything pleasing about the Reds this season.
He has played 31 games in all competitions and his combative style of play has seen him worshipped for Forest supporters.
Colback has made 102 appearances for parent club Newcastle United and boasts an impressive 88% pass success for the entire campaign, according to Who Scored.
The midfielder captained the team during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Hull City and that speaks volumes of the impact he has on boss Martin O’Neill and in the dressing room.
Take nothing away from Yates, he has looked superb of late.
He looks like he will claim every accolade going on current form but it’s fair to say that other players are more befitting of this season’s Player of the Season award.
None more so than Colback.
