Defender Jack Robinson has said that Nottingham Forest simply haven’t been good enough this season.
The defender was thrust back into central defence on Saturday as Martin O’Neill tries an experimental approach between now and the end of the campaign.
Forest were defeated 2-1 by Blackburn Rovers with their season set to end with a whimper. Goals from Joe Rothwell and Danny Graham ensured that the last four games have very little riding on them for the Reds.
The final whistle on Saturday was met with some disgruntled boos from the home faithful and Robinson concedes that they haven’t been good enough all season.
He said: “It is not good enough, the results all season have not been good enough. The results have been too hit and miss. We have to find some form from somewhere between now and the summer.”
The 25-year-old joined Forest on a free transfer from QPR last summer and he says the booing from the crowd is justified.
He continued: “The fans pay their money to watch us and we are not giving them performances back in return.
“The players will get booed if they’re not performing. I have nothing against them for that at all.”
Robinson does believe the squad has been good enough though and says the players are disappointed in themselves.
“With the squad that Aitor built and the one that Martin took over, it is more than good enough to get into the play-offs. We’re disappointed in ourselves, at not being around the top six,” the Forest defender said.
Seat Pitch Verdict
The Forest man has spoken honestly about the current situation at the City Ground.
After three defeats on the spin, the comments are refreshing. A performance at Sheffield United on Friday would speak louder than any words though.
Robinson was back in a more unfamiliar central defensive position on Saturday and perhaps O’Neill will have learned a lot following the game.
Although a job is always done by the ex-Liverpool trainee wherever he is called upon, the defensive unit is more balanced with him at left-back.
It is perhaps interesting too that after certain ex-players said that the squad wasn’t good enough, Robinson has come out fighting and said that the group of players are good enough.
The squad isn’t a million miles away and the summer once again looks a crucial time for Forest.
