Nottingham Forest must take on Middlesbrough at the City Ground this afternoon knowing that their season is now over.
Defeat in South Yorkshire against Sheffield United on Good Friday means that the gap to the top-six is now unassailable for the Reds.
The miserable performance in the 2-0 defeat leaves far more questions than answers for Martin O’Neill. For his sake, he needs a rousing response from his team over the next three matches.
The defeat also proved costly on the suspension front. Jack Colback collected his 15th yellow card of the campaign and won’t play for Forest again this season; whilst Yohan Benalouane was sent off two minutes into the second half.
Jack Robinson will almost certainly come in at left-back, but there are very few options to fill the void left by Benalouane.
Swedish defender Alex Milosevic has not been in favour of late – bizarrely! Since arriving on a free in January, Forest fans have raved about the 27-year-old.
He was introduced a sub following the Tunisian’s red card on Friday and looked pretty decent once again.
Forest must be looking to keep players like Milosevic around the City Ground next season. Indeed, it is still baffling as to why he was dropped in the first place.
Milosevic will want to play his way back into the manager’s thinking for next season and he will hopefully get the chance to start doing just that in today’s game.
