Nottingham Forest thrashed Middlesbrough 3-0 at the City Ground on Monday afternoon, raising the spirits after four straight defeats.

The Reds were outstanding against a Boro side who are chasing the play-offs. A brace from Joe Lolley and a rocket from Alexander Milosevic completed a comprehensive Easter Monday rout.

Martin O’Neill changed the system for the visit of Tony Pulis’ team. Three central defenders were deployed to incorporate two wing-backs. That allowed the majestic Joao Carvalho to return to the fold, alongside Joe Lolley with both players given the freedom to roam in attack.

Forest fans were delighted to see Carvalho’s name on the team-sheet. He has been used sparingly under O’Neill much to the dismay of the club’s supporters.

After one of the finest individual displays at the City Ground in recent memory, those supporters will hope to see their main man retain his place for the last two fixtures.

The 22-year-old Portuguese magician was rewarded for his efforts on Monday. He joined Milosevic and Lolley in the Who Scored Championship Team of the Week.

Forest fans were quick to praise Carvalho following his inclusion, taking to Twitter to heap plaudits on their creative spark.
