Jack Colback could cost Nottingham Forest as little as £1 million this summer, according to a report courtesy of Chronicle Live.

The fiery midfielder has spent the last 18 months on loan at the City Ground, finishing second behind Joe Lolley in the club’s official 2018/19 Player of the Year vote.

Colback has no future at Newcastle United and it is thought that he has already been told that by boss Rafa Benitez. It had been unclear how much the Magpies would want to recoup for their player.

The defensive midfielder played 39 times for the Reds during the season. He scored three goals and registered two assists, captaining the side on a few occasions under Martin O’Neill.

One stumbling block over any deal could be Colback’s salary demands. According to Spotrac, the 29-year-old earns £35k-a-week at Newcastle.

The Seat Pitch Verdict

If Colback is available for the sum of £1 million, then Forest needs to act quickly.

The midfielder was in fantastic form last season and every team needs a player who does the so-called ugly stuff as well as he does.

Having developed a rapport with the club’s supporters over the last 18 months, he would surely love the chance to return to the City Ground.

If O’Neill is savvy he could look to entice Colback to the club by offering him a permanent club captain or vice-captain role. He possesses tremendous leadership qualities and he would be a decent player for the younger players to learn from.
