Lewis Grabban was a key player for Nottingham Forest last season, and it’s unlikely that’ll be any different this time round.

The Reds kick-off their 2019/20 Championship campaign against West Bromwich Albion. They’ll be desperate to get off to a good start against one of their fellow promotion hopefuls.

He scored just twice under the management of Martin O’Neill. His failure to get the best out of the attacking talent at his disposal was one of the Northern Irishman’s major downfalls.

Despite the fact he has only scored twice this year, the 31-year-old striker still racked up 16 goals in the Championship. That isn’t a bad return following his £6 million move from AFC Bournemouth last season.

However, it wasn’t enough to buck the club’s long-standing goalscoring trend. Not a single player has broken the 20-goal mark at the City Ground since the 2002/03 campaign.

Elusive

It is often considered as one of the main ingredients in order to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Grabban will be desperate to achieve that feat next season under the management of Sabri Lamouchi. He was one player who certainly didn’t look his usual self following the departure of Aitor Karanka.

One of the main reasons which caused Grabban’s dip in form was his struggles with an Achilles injury. It proved to be a troublesome niggle which kept him out for a significant number of games.

Fortunately for Lamouchi, the issue seems to have cleared up for the time-being at least.

He has been heavily involved in the squad’s pre-season programme so far. He started in the 2-1 win against Alfreton Town at the weekend.

It will be interesting to see if he can build on his 16-goal tally from last season in the upcoming Championship campaign.
