Daryl Murphy signed for Nottingham Forest just under two years ago, when Mark Warburton was in the managerial hot-seat.
Some Nottingham Forest supporters are now urging their side to get rid amid reports that Sabri Lamouchi has told the 36-year-old that he can leave the club.
The Irish Sun reports that Daryl Murphy has been told by the club’s new manager that he can leave the City Ground this summer. His future had become uncertain following the dismissal of Martin O’Neill.
Murphy joined the Reds at a difficult time – in which Britt Assombalonga had just departed for Middlesbrough for a fee of £15 million. This was always going to draw unfair comparisons between the two.
For the most part, the former Republic of Ireland international has been a useful player for the Reds. He has made 60 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals in the process. That isn’t the goalscoring return he would’ve hoped for, but he offers more than that to the side.
Murphy could be one of the players to be most negatively affected by the recent managerial change. He was highly-rated by Martin O’Neill during his time in charge. He played a part in nine of the Northern Irishman’s 19 games in charge.
There was an assumption among the club’s supporters that he would’ve played a key role this season had O’Neill still been in charge. This now seems highly unlikely under the management of Lamouchi.
It isn’t too surprising that Lamouchi is keen to offload the striker. He has already spoken about wanting to add more technically gifted players to the squad who have a turn of pace.
‘I love Lamouchi’, ‘He did a good job’
With only 12 months left on his contract, it also makes sense for the Reds to try and secure a small fee for the striker. Due to his experience in the Championship, there should be plenty of potential suitors.
Following this report, Forest fans have taken to Twitter to offer their thoughts on the speculation:

Some so called fans amaze me. Daryl Murphy got booed on to the pitch as a sub late on last season. Within a few minutes he scored and made a goal that turned a losing position into a win.
