Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in Yuri Ribeiro of Benfica.

Yuri Ribeiro is a promising left-back, and there is no surprise that the Reds are reportedly interested in signing the Benfica player. He has a lot of potential to be a good addition.

According to Portuguese outlet Jornal Record, the Reds are interested in signing the left-back from the Primeira Liga giants. At this stage, it remains to be seen whether any potential move would be permanent or on loan.

The 22-year-old left-back has not been a regular for the first team since he came through the youth academy a few years ago. He made just two appearances under the management of Bruno Lage last season. These came in the Europa League wins against Galatasaray and Dinamo Zagreb.

One of the main reasons why he hasn’t be able to get a run in the team is due to the form of Álex Grimaldo. The 23-year-old Spaniard is one of the most promising left-backs in Europe. For that reason, Ribeiro can count himself unlucky.

‘Thank you’

The former Portugal Under-21 international’s tweet now suggests that he is departing the Estàdio da Luz on a permanent basis. The tweet reads ‘Thank you very much, Benfica’ in Portuguese.

Ribeiro isn’t the only Benfica player who is being linked with a move to the Reds. 21-year-old Alfa Semedo is also reportedly close to securing a season-long loan move to the City Ground. There is a chance they could both arrive this week.

If the Reds are able to land Ribeiro, then he would provide strong competition to Jack Robinson. The 25-year-old is currently the only recognised left-back in Sabri Lamouchi’s squad.

In this case, to challenge for promotion to the Premier League, competition is required in every position. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if Robinson was made to fight for his place in the team.

There’s no doubt that Ribeiro would force him to do just that.
