Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Mehdi Zeffane, but may have to be patient if they wish to strike a deal.

Patience must be the greatest virtue Nottingham Forest need to demonstrate this summer, if they’re interested in securing the services of former Rennes right-back Mehdi Zeffane, according to the Nottingham Post.

Whilst reports suggest that numerous sides are interested in the right-back, it’s unlikely that he’ll make any decision about his next move before the end of the Africa Cup of Nations. The 27-year-old has been playing alongside Adlène Guedioura for Algeria.

‘The Greens’ face the Ivory Coast in their quarter-final clash later today. If they are able to progress through all the way to the final, then they will play at the Cairo International Stadium on 19 July.

Rennes are yet to resign themselves to losing the right-back. A two-year deal is said to still be on the table. According to L’Equipe, Zeffane does still have the option to remain at Roazhon Park.

Interest

According to the Nottingham Post, the 27-year-old has also caught the eye of Fiorentina and Espanyol. Recently-promoted Premier League side Norwich City are also said to be interested. Zeffane may be keen to move elsewhere following an enjoyable four-year spell at Rennes.

It’s one of a minority of positions that the Reds could still do with strengthening. Tendayi Darikwa is currently Sabri Lamouchi’s only recognised right-back. It remains to be seen whether the Reds are able to strike a deal to bring Sam Byram back.

Meanwhile, the Reds are seemingly planning for all eventualities. Should the Reds fail to land Byram or another right-back, then snapping up Zeffane on a free transfer would be good business.
