Nottingham Forest defender Alexander Milošević is yet to make an appearance for the Reds this season.

Not only this, but the 27-year-old defender wasn’t even able to make the matchday squad for the games against West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United.

The Reds take on Fleetwood Town in their first-round Carabao Cup tie tonight. If Milošević is once again snubbed by Sabri Lamouchi, then serious questions will be asked about the defender’s future at the club.

Lamouchi does have a number of centre-back options available to him. Joe Worrall and Michael Dawson appear to be his first choice defensive pairing at present. They’ve done nothing to suggest they deserve dropping so far.

Tobias Figueiredo, Chema Rodríguez and Yohan Benalouane are also in Lamouchi’s plans for this season, although the latter is currently out injured. The Frenchman has suggested that Michael Hefele is unlikely to feature this season.

Quality

Milošević signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds when he arrived in February. He featured regularly in the second half of last season under the management of Martin O’Neill.

Given his performances, there was an assumption among the club’s supporters that he’d remain a key figure this season.

However, Lamouchi’s selection choices so far this season suggest he may have a battle on his hands to get into the side. If he is given a chance to play against Fleetwood, he’ll have to be at the top of his game.

There is still a chance that the 27-year-old could leave the City Ground this month, but there haven’t been any official reports suggesting this could be the case.

The transfer window in France, Spain and Germany slams shut on August 31, while Italy’s transfer window concludes on August 18.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Milošević can force his way back into the starting line-up…
