Nottingham Forest progressed into the second round of the EFL Cup following a 1-0 victory over Fleetwood Town at the City Ground.

Boss Sabri Lamouchi rang the changes for the contest with only Joe Worrall and Tiago Silva keeping their places from Saturday’s draw with Leeds United.

After a spirited performance, the French boss will naturally have some difficult decisions to make when Birmingham City arrive on Trentside on Saturday.

Following the win, Seat Pitch looked at the players’ performances and marked them out of 10.

Brice Samba – 7

Kept goal with relative ease and made two or three smart stops to keep Fleetwood at bay in the second half.

Carl Jenkinson – 7

A steady debut for the former Arsenal man. Nearly broke the deadlock early doors with a dipping volley and was good at both ends of the pitch.

Joe Worrall – 8

Another sound performance from the captain on the night. Does occasionally try an ambitious pass too many, but largely he was composed.

Tobias Figueiredo – 8

A good first performance of the campaign from the Portuguese performer. Will be a big player for Forest if he can maintain his fitness.

Yuri Ribeiro – 7

Calm and composed from the left-back. Once he adapts to English football he could be a quality addition to Sabri Lamouchi’s squad.

Samba Sow – 8

A superb maiden start for the big Malian. Threw himself into everything at both ends of the pitch and looks like being a quality player for the Reds this season.

John Bostock – 7

Neat and tidy in possession and once he shakes the ring rust off his fitness will undoubtedly be a sound addition to the squad.

Arvin Appiah – 8

Showed flashes of brilliance and gave Danny Andrew the runaround during his 70-odd minutes on the pitch. Appiah is learning with every game he plays for the first-team.

Tiago Silva – 9

Man of the Match on the night and it’s hard to disagree. Took his first Forest goal with aplomb and tormented Fleetwood throughout the contest.

Sammy Ameobi – 7

A really determined performance from the ex-Bolton man who worked tirelessly in defence and attack.

Rafa Mir – 6

A good run-out for the on-loan Wolves player. Didn’t see a great deal of service from the three behind him, but nobody can deny his work rate.

Substitutions

Brennan Johnson – 6

Produced a beauty of a cross just after coming on and kept it simple when he did see the ball.

Matty Cash – 6

Was put on to cover defensively for a tiring Jenkinson. In tandem, they kept the Fleetwood left-hand side at bay.
