Nottingham Forest secured a passage into the second round of the EFL Cup by beating Fleetwood Town 1-0 at the City Ground.

A tight game was won thanks to a first Forest goal for Portuguese attacker Tiago Silva, who fired home in the 59th minute.

The game proved to be a good test for a second-string team put out by Sabri Lamouchi.

Only Silva and Joe Worrall kept their places in the starting eleven from Saturday. Michael Dawson, Alfa Semedo, Joe Lolley and Lewis Grabban were all given the night off.

Fleetwood huffed and puffed, and but for a flurry of late chances Forest always looked in control of the contest.

Adapting to English football

The little magician showed an array of talent against the League One opposition and capped his goalscoring performance off by claiming the Man of the Match award too.
