Nottingham Forest were said to be keen on bringing Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback back to the City Ground earlier this summer under the management of Martin O’Neill.

There’s no doubt that the tenacious midfielder became a very popular figure on Trentside during his two loan spells. However, the Reds have significantly strengthened their midfield options under Sabri Lamouchi.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United are willing to consider low bids for the midfielder when the transfer window reopens in a few months.

Colback once again isn’t in the first team picture at St James’ Park after being left out of Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad last month. This came after he had been given a chance by Steve Bruce to impress over pre-season.

His future with the Magpies remains increasingly uncertain and he faces the prospect of going the next few months without any senior football.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Reds would be interested in bringing the midfielder back to the City Ground, if he is available at a cut price. The Reds signed the likes of John Bostock, Alfa Semedo, Samba Sow and Tiago Silva this summer.

They certainly aren’t short of options in the midfield department.

In addition, Colback currently earns around £35,000-a-week according to Spotrac. The Reds would have to seriously consider whether the 29-year-old is worth that sort of money if he is unwilling to take much of a pay cut.

Ben Watson has been sitting in front of the back four for the Reds this season. He has been a different player under the management of Lamouchi. However, some supporters feel that Colback might be a better option in the long-term than the 34-year-old.

Some Nottingham Forest supporters have been sharing their thoughts on whether or not they’d re-sign the midfielder over the weekend.
