The Nottingham Forest squad underwent major surgery during the summer months with several players arriving and many others going in the opposite direction.

Given that another new manager arrived at the City Ground the turnover wasn’t really unsurprising but the club will now hope for some stability.

French boss Sabri Lamouchi has enjoyed a good start to life in charge. He has overseen a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions, stemming back to the opening day of the season when Forest were defeated 2-1 by West Brom.

With the windows now locked until January, there is unlikely to be any more outgoing activity, at least for a few months.

Given that the squad is still relatively bloated, we had a look at eight players who could perhaps already have one eye on the January transfer window:

Claudio Yacob

The Argentine midfielder has been desperately unlucky during his time at the City Ground. He was a regular in the team under Aitor Karanka and was given the captain’s armband during Martin O’Neill’s first game in charge back in January. For whatever reason, he hasn’t had a look in under Lamouchi and it came as a big surprise that he didn’t depart during the summer.

Michael Hefele

The central defender has struggled with an Achilles injury picked up in the early stages of the win over Leeds United on New Year’s Day. Is yet to begin full training and it remains to be seen when the 29-year-old will return. He was one of the players told by Lamouchi earlier this summer that they were surplus to requirements.

Alexander Milosevic

The most bizarre of the bunch. Milosevic featured in pre-season and had looked like he might have an impact under Lamouchi’s management. Hasn’t had a look in so far this season, making just one appearance on the bench in the Carabao Cup. It would be sad to see him leave given his undoubted quality, although it’s hard to imagine him playing much.

Zach Clough

Scored for the under-23s this week against Ipswich Town, giving his confidence a timely boost. Seems almost saddening to think how Clough’s career has nosedived and the sooner he can get fixed up with a new club the better it will be for everyone.

Jordan Smith

The goalkeeper went on loan to Mansfield Town last term and after just 12 appearances, he was dropped by David Flitcroft for the erratic Conrad Logan. With Arijanet Muric and Brice Samba in front of him, his first-team chances look slim.

Ryan Yates

Maybe a surprising one to some supporters to see Yates’ name on the list but perhaps a loan move might do the academy man good in the January window. The youngster has played no football yet due to a knee operation and right now it looks unlikely that he will receive much game time in a very solid looking midfield.

Yohan Benalouane

The Tunisian hasn’t been seen all season and as of yet, he hasn’t returned to the City Ground for training. Given the number of new arrivals at central defence and the return of Michael Dawson and Joe Worrall, it seems highly unlikely that he will be playing much football any time soon at Forest. Getting him away from the wage bill would be ideal.

Costel Pantilimon

The big Romanian is now third-choice goalkeeper under Lamouchi and hasn’t featured in a squad yet during the current campaign. Kept 15 clean sheets last season and as a result, can perhaps count himself a little bit unlucky to find himself out of the picture completely.
